YouTube CTR Calculator
Calculate your YouTube video's impression click-through rate with the formulaviews generated by impressions ÷ impressions × 100.

How to use this tool reliably
Use inputs from the same reporting period and scope. Check the units before calculating, and keep a record of the assumptions so the result can be reproduced. For a commercial decision, compare several scenarios rather than relying on one isolated number.
Formula and how to read the result
The tool follows this logic: views from impressions ÷ impressions × 100. The result is most useful when compared with a genuinely similar period, format, audience or campaign. A change is not automatically good or bad: connect it to the objective and to the quality of the traffic or audience.
Worked example
Illustrative example: with 45,000 impressions and 2,700 views from those impressions, the calculation returns about 6% CTR. This example is designed to verify the method; it is not an official benchmark, a guaranteed rate or a performance promise.
How to use the number in a decision
For a rate, avoid comparing accounts or periods with very different audiences and formats. Track the trend over time and segment by content type when possible. A sustained improvement with a qualified audience is usually more useful than a one-off spike.
Important limitations
Social-media data varies by platform, niche, country, format, season, measurement source and audience quality. FaceTube performs a transparent calculation from the values you enter; it does not replace official platform analytics, a contract, a media study or financial advice.
CTR (%) = views generated by impressions ÷ impressions × 100
| Views from impressions | Impressions | Calculated CTR |
|---|---|---|
| 2,000 | 100,000 | 2% |
| 4,500 | 100,000 | 4.5% |
| 8,000 | 100,000 | 8% |
You can find these metrics in YouTube Studio, in analytics for the relevant content or video. YouTube explains that an impression is counted only in certain placements, so not all views come from impressions.
How should you interpret the result?
A higher CTR does not automatically mean better overall performance. A video shown to a very loyal audience may get a high CTR with few impressions, while a video distributed very broadly may see its CTR fall while gaining more views. The most useful analysis is to compare similar videos over a sufficiently long period while looking at impressions, views and watch time together.
YouTube says that for half of all channels and videos, impression CTR may fall between 2% and 10%. This is not a universal target or a performance guarantee.
Read YouTube's official help on CTRWhy can my calculation differ from YouTube Analytics?
- Total views used by mistake:external views, end screens and other sources do not always correspond to a counted impression.
- Different date ranges:make sure views and impressions cover exactly the same date range.
- Data still updating:YouTube reports may consolidate with a slight delay.
- Wrong metric:use views generated by impressions, not Google Ads campaign clicks or total public views.
Improve a low CTR without resorting to clickbait
Start with thumbnail readability on mobile, clarity of the promise, and consistency between title, thumbnail and the actual content. Avoid changing a video after a tiny fluctuation: YouTube recommends waiting for sufficient impression volume before drawing conclusions. A thumbnail that attracts clicks but then disappoints viewers can hurt satisfaction and watch time.
Frequently asked questions
What is the YouTube CTR formula?
For impression click-through rate, divide views generated by impressions by the number of impressions, then multiply by 100.
What is a good CTR on YouTube?
There is no universal threshold. YouTube says a large share of channels and videos fall between 2% and 10%, with wide variation depending on audience, content and impression placement.
Why shouldn't you use total views?
Because not every view is generated by a counted impression. Using total views can therefore produce a percentage different from the one shown in YouTube Analytics.
Does the calculator send my data to FaceTube?
No. The standard calculation is performed in your browser using the values you enter.
